We encourage our illustration students to take initiative – planning and organising your own experiences with guidance and support from tutors. This approach builds independence, collaboration, and a practical mindset from the outset.
We continue to connect you with industry through key external opportunities, including participation in in London, where emerging illustrators showcase their talents alongside leading creatives.
Our commitment to international exchange remains strong, with a Japanese exchange programme will continue as a standout opportunity for cultural and creative immersion, alongside additional exchanges across Europe, Scandinavia, and the United States. These experiences broaden visual perspectives, expose students to global illustration practices, and foster lasting professional networks.
Together, these opportunities ensure illustration students develop not only their craft, but also the confidence, adaptability, and global outlook essential for a successful creative career.
Our visiting lecturer programme has included prestigious names from the world of illustration, including, amongst others:
Left to right: BA Illustration course leader Ashley Potter; symposium speakers Tom Jay, Josh Atack and Viv Schwarz; Professor Jo Davies.
What’s more, the staff who’ll teach and support you throughout your course are actively researching and practicing illustration. For example, Visiting Professor Dr Jo Davies wrote the two leading texts on illustration practice, and . Jo has recently published with Derek Brazell. Our course leader Ashley Potter was production designer for the London 2012 Olympic Mascot films.
